AfroNature AfroNature is a Nature based, safe space for Black Portland and beyond. 

With the daily stresses of being Black in America, AfroNature seeks to provide Black people with much needed peace and mental health restoration through Nature.

AfroNature exists to bring the Black community together, and to create strong bonds between the people living here. All forms of Blackness are welcome! No matter your background, sexuality, religious beliefs, political standing, etc. You are loved.

Albina Sports Program, Adult Walking Team The primary goal of the teams is to promote general health and wellness for men and women through organized walking activities. We accomplish these goals by increasing the awareness and need for physical activities among adults.  We encourage community participation by intentionally walking throughout our neighborhoods and promoting walking activities to community members. 

Albina Walking team is broken up into two categories Solefull Masters (40 and up) and Classic Soles (50 and up). We walk year around with the Portland to Coast walk our main event.

Anansi Beat African Drumming & Dancing Classes. All drumming classes taught by master Ghanian drummer, Nii Ardey Allotey. Instruction in traditional dance from Ghana taught by Nii Ardey Allotey.

Black & Beyond the Binary Collective Black & Beyond the Binary Collective builds the leadership, healing, and safety of Black-African transgender, queer, nonbinary, two-spirit, and intersex (TQN2SI+) Oregonians.

We envision a future that gives power back to our communities, celebrates self-expression, and preserves the dignity, joy, and the future of Black queer and Trans communities living fully liberated lives.

Black Futures Farm Our mission is to heal the connection between Black people and the land, and we achieve this by cultivating a healthy place for the Black community to gather in joy. Starting in May and ending in October, every Sunday is Black Sunday, a day for Black-identified folks to gather, celebrate, learn, and grow together. 

Black Girls Brunch Club A safe space exclusively for Black women to connect and build community.

Black Girls Do Bike, PDX Our primary focus lies in promoting the joy of cycling, particularly among women and girls of color. 

We provide a supportive and inclusive platform where female cyclists can come together to offer guidance, organize group rides, and promote skill-sharing. Our overarching goal is to demystify the world of cycling and be a liaison to help usher new riders past barriers to entry and into the larger cycling community. We rejoice when women choose cycling as a tool for fellowship, fitness, freedom, and fun! 

Black Girls Run The goal of “Black Girls Run” is to encourage and motivate black women to practice a healthy lifestyle. We want to serve as a fitness resource for runners and gym rats alike, as well as provide tips and commentary on staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  But we also want to start a movement to encourage ALL women to get off the couch and get active.

Black Men’s Wellness Workshops Through culturally specific, trauma-informed workshops, we engage African-American men of all ages to identify and discuss health concerns they are currently experiencing and/or are susceptible to. We offer curriculum and activities focused on healthy eating and physical fitness to raise awareness, equip participants, and promote strategies for prevention.

Black Swimming Initiatives Our mission is to expand meaningful participation in water sports by providing a strong sense of belonging for Black athletes of all backgrounds, abilities, and lifestyles by supporting safe and accessible water safety and swimming instruction. 

We envision a world where racism is eliminated from the aquatics and water sports; where individuals can access bodies of water with confidence in themselves and be welcomed by all. 

Black Women Portland Oregon Black Women Thriving N Da Beautiful Pacific Northwest. We meet Monthly for Brunch & So Much More. Connecting Black Women Portland and Surrounding Area One Meetup at a Time!! 

Brothas and Sistas Night Out Meetup Brothas and Sistas Night Out was created to bring more Brothas and Sistas together for good times, great food, and genuine connection. Ready to get out, meet amazing people, and keep building this community, Tracie Smith-McCarthy jumped in as organizer in October 2024 to keep the magic going. Our mission? To create a space for fellowship, grow a thriving community, and spark lasting relationships—all through unforgettable evenings packed with fun, laughter, and the uplifting company of positive Brothas and Sistas of African descent.

Brown and Black Writers of PDX A place where Brown and Black writers can introduce themselves, announce what we are working on, then I will say “Callete” (Espanol for Shut Up) and then we will write for one hour!

Afterwards we can discuss and chat what we wrote and how it went, if you want of course!

I invite all writers for written mediums like: essays, screenplays, plays, novels, poetry, songs, short stories, journalism, blogs, non fiction, speeches, etc to join us. All is welcomed. BIPOC-Centered.

Community Pulse Series, 3v3ryday Grind 3v3ryday Grind facilitates industry specific educational opportunities within the construction and manufacturing industries as well as other career paths. We work closely with Pre-apprenticeship and Apprenticeship programs to offer support to participants and create pathways for community involvement. We offer career services support as it pertains to workforce preparation to not only obtain employment but to keep it. A unique value that 3v3ryday Grind brings to the community is the Community Pulse Series, an initiative to increase the diversity, equity and inclusion within the construction industry via intentional recruitment from the black and brown community.

We offer age-appropriate construction focused workshops in schools and within the community so that participants can get hands on experience working with hand and power tools, and there are some supports around obtaining clothing and gear to enter the workforce. We also provided a safe space to utilize the internet for job search and resume creation.

Fore the Ladies This group was created by Women of Color. This space is intended to be for previous golfers, novice players, and professionals. A space for women of color, entrepreneurs, business owners, and like-minded women to come together, talk about life, promote self-care, and uplift joy. BIPOC-Centered.

GirlTREK: Portland GirlTREK is a life-saving sisterhood. We are a campaign to heal intergenerational trauma, fight systemic racism and transform Black lives. As women organize walking teams, they also mobilize community members to support advocacy efforts and lead a Civil Rights-inspired health movement. 

Green Workforce Academy (GWA), EcoTrust GWA is a 5-week paid training opportunity for Black, Indigenous and other adults of color in Portland, Oregon. Through classroom learning and hands-on work experience at field sites, you will both learn and share about the environmental issues that impact your communities. And, you’ll learn what you need to know to get green jobs that find and implement solutions to those issues. GWA aims to be a first step to a career that brings financial stability and improves community health. BIPOC-Centered.

Ladies of the Light Community Where Sistars of Many Nations come together to elevate and empower one another on our wellness and spiritual journeys. Join us in fostering a supportive sistarhood where we celebrate our shared purpose and individual growth. Through community workshops, transformative retreats, and our online platform, we provide resources to nourish your mind, body, and spirit. As a nonprofit organization, our mission is to educate, elevate, and enlighten women worldwide. Step into the light with us and embrace the power of collective enlightenment.

Lions Speaks Programs Programs include:

  • Incubators- These initiatives are designed to provide students with an intensive learning experience in film, media, and technology. Upon completion, students will have produced a piece of work for their portfolio. They will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading industry experts, receiving invaluable mentorship. These projects, which are fully funded, provide financial support to small storytelling teams.

  • Training and Mentorship- Our specialized departmental training equips participants with the necessary skills to become efficient crew members right from the first day at work. In addition, this program offers mentorship along with career advisory services for comprehensive professional development.

  • Job Placement- The job placement programs offered by Lion Speaks encompass a range of services. These include securing a position on a professional film set, providing a recommendation to the local union, and offering guidance in the union membership application process. Additionally, the program assists with paying the initial union membership fee and dues.

  • Major Films- These projects provide apprentices up to 40 hours of training before the production in subjects like film culture, expectations, safety, and procedures so they are set up for success on day one. Most projects have 20 or more apprentices, each receiving a minimum of 200 paid hours of training on the production.

Outdoor Afro PDX Outdoor Afro celebrates and inspires Black connections and leadership in nature. Our local network activities range from hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming, bird watching, fishing, and more.

Pan African Snow Day Event, Black Men’s Wellness A day of community, snowboarding and skiing for the people of the Pan African Diaspora at Mt. Hood. Youth inclusive. 

People of Color Outdoors Guardians, People of Color Outdoors (POCO) People of Color Outdoors is a healing space where BIPOC can enjoy the outdoors together. We offer nature education and serve as a caring community where true friendships have blossomed between members of all ages and backgrounds.

We enjoy hiking, trail running, biking, camping, canoeing, fishing, bird watching and rock climbing.

Prismid Sanctuary Prismid Sanctuary is a place in Portland, OR for Indigenous, Black & all POC artists and cultural workers to convene, rest, and heal.

We cultivate time, place, and programming through cultural practices of healing, artistry and land reciprocity. Black and Indigenous-Centered.

Prose Before Bros PDX Social Bookclub for Women of Color in PDX. A book club where women of color share reading and community. Besides monthly club meetings, group members participate in reading-themed happy hours, book swaps, a book festival, and retreats.

SISTAS Dolled Up™, SISTAS Empowerment SISTAS Dolled Up™, a transformative workshop designed to guide women through a journey of healing and self-care by creating dolls that reflect their inner selves and aspirations. Regardless of background, participants find a nurturing and inclusive space to belong while crafting dolls that celebrate their beauty and potential. 

More than just a creative activity, SISTAS Dolled Up™ incorporates healing elements into the crafting process. Through mindful creation and guided reflection, participants can explore their personal journey and find peace with their past while embracing the present. The workshop environment encourages open discussions where women can acknowledge their strengths, perseverance, and resilience, fostering a sense of healing and empowerment.

Soulful Line Dance, Sistahs4Life  Sistahs4Life's soulful line dance program has been based in Portland, Oregon since 2013 and is growing by the day. As a family-friendly, community minded organization focused on health and wellness, we've supported many charities, associations and events over the years and we're not about to stop now! 

Our comprehensive line dance program was developed to benefit beginners through advanced participants. Each instructor attends training camps to maintain the integrity of our program. Giving back to our community is what drives us. Each year we create several fundraising events encouraging participates to donate to a worthy cause.

Line dancing is a "natural" path to healthy living. Get Active! Get Healthy! Get Fit!

Sustainable Agriculture Education, Black Oregon Land Trust We support aspiring and current Black farmers and land stewards to develop culturally-relevant, ancestrally-rooted, sustainable agriculture skills through educational intensives. 

  • We offer day workshops and week-long intensives to community members to land-based skills like seed saving, soil remediation, animal harvest and dairy farming. 

  • We provide small education grants to farmers to pursue other trainings, in collaboration with local farmer training program

  • We weave regenerative agriculture skills with ancestral practices that nourish the community.
