African American AIDS Awareness Action Alliance The African-American AIDS Awareness Action Alliance works year-round to increase awareness of HIV/AIDS in the African American community and the larger community by directly involving community members in the planning and implementation of events that promote HIV/AIDS/STD and mental health awareness in dynamic ways.

African American AIDS Awareness Action Alliance partners with Healthcare agencies and Faith Houses in planning, coordinating, and implementing HIV/AIDS/STDs and mental health prevention programs to help prevent and eradicate HIV/AIDS in the Portland, OR area.

African Family Holistic Health Organization We wrap around Portland’s African Diaspora communities and help each family identify their unique needs and ways to improve their lives. We utilize a trauma-informed, systems-thinking approach firmly grounded in popular education and Polyvagal Theory to address physical, mental, emotional, and financial health, empower individuals, and create healthier families and communities.

Black Men’s Wellness Black Men’s Wellness is a community-based initiative that addresses health concerns commonly affecting Black and African-American men, including high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, anxiety, and more.

Through culturally specific, trauma-informed workshops, we engage African-American men of all ages to identify and discuss health concerns they are currently experiencing and/or are susceptible to. We offer curriculum and activities focused on healthy eating and physical fitness to raise awareness, equip participants, and promote strategies for prevention.

Cascadia Behavioral Health: Garlington Center Cascadia Health delivers Whole Health CareTM. We provide mental health services, addiction recovery support, primary care, wellness programs, permanent housing solutions and affordable housing to people of all ages.

Center for African Health and Education (CAHE) At the Center for African Health and Education (CAHE), our mission is to empower and uplift African refugees and immigrant communities by tirelessly advocating for health equity. Through collaborative initiatives, education, and compassionate care, we strive to create a nurturing environment where the most vulnerable individuals can thrive, fostering a healthier and more resilient future for all.

Center for African Immigrants and Refugees Organization (CAIRO): Community Health The community health program is a team of frontline public health workers who are trusted members of and/or have an unusually close understanding of the community served. The program offers a direct link/intermediary between health/social services and the community to facilitate access to services and improve service delivery quality and cultural competence. The program also provides resources on quarantine education, support, trauma-informed, culturally responsive wrap-around case management services, and support within Multnomah and Washington Counties. These efforts are made possible through established collaborative partnerships with the Oregon Health Authorities, Multnomah County and Washington County Public Health Departments among other partners.

Fresh Out Community-Based Reentry Program    Fresh Out Community-Based Reentry Program was formed in 2007 by a group of formerly incarcerated African-American individuals. In addition to becoming productive members of society, they saw a need to help other formerly incarcerated individuals successfully reenter into the community, focusing on the African American population. 

Going Home II Going Home II helps incarcerated people prepare for and actualize a successful return to the community by providing tailored guidance and support through material resources, transitional housing, and personal and professional mentoring. The organization also works with community stakeholders and families to build resilience through relational repair.

Greater New Hope Charities (GNHC) GNHC supports BIPOC and low-income families in Multnomah County, connecting families and individuals with resources to live healthy, stable, fulfilling lives.

Through program initiatives focused on reducing Social Determinants of Health (SDoH), eliminating health inequities, and providing access to higher education and employment training, we strive to empower individuals from underresourced communities to pursue opportunities that lead to better health outcomes, secure employment, and economic stability. Our efforts foster personal growth and advancement and contribute to building a more inclusive and prosperous East Multnomah County for everyone.

Harry Watson Home Base Recovery House, Volunteers of America Home Base Recovery (HBR) is a comprehensive treatment program that facilitates men ages 18 and over in making positive life changes. We utilize the cultural strengths of each person to provide effective services. We provide Substance Abuse, Problem Gambling, Mental Health and Naturopathic Medical Services, and mentorship coupled with supportive housing.

Healing Roots Program, Bradley Angle Safety and healing doesn’t look the same for everyone, which is why Bradley Angle’s Healing Roots & Kinship Programs provide culturally specific and responsive services for Black/African American survivors of domestic violence.

Our Healing Roots Program has been in operation since 2006. It offers survivors a safe space to access resources that promote healing and connection. Advocates understand how their unique history has shaped their community and shape their support accordingly.

Healing Roots offers a virtual Healthy Relationships Support Group and a virtual Parent Empowerment Support Group that are available to the public.

Healthy Birth Initiatives, Multnomah County Healthy Birth Initiatives addresses the needs of pregnant Black and African American women.

It does this by opening up access to health care and providing ongoing support to pregnant Black and African American women and their families before and after birth.

Imani Center, Central City Concern Since 2015, Imani Center has provided mental health and addiction treatment for the Black and African American community. The Imani Center offers individual and group counseling, peer support and limited case management in a culturally safe environment where participants can be themselves. At the Imani Center, you’ll have the opportunity to build community with folks who look like you, with the support of staff members who have lived knowledge of Black culture and the African American experience.

Just Men In Recovery Culturally Specific Peer Support Services for African American men and youth. Offering a yearly Men’s Retreats, Peer to Peer services, sponsorship, outreach and support.

Our mission is to foster the awareness of Men and Youth, by developing self-awareness and growth among our members along with providing support service in the community. To hold retreats for the men and youth to build relationships and network and fellowship with men that were living their lives clean & sober in the community.

Karibu Stabilization Program, Central City Concern The Karibu Stabilization for Treatment Preparation (STP) program offers transitional, dorm-style housing with 15 beds. This program is designed to provide individualized, culturally specific services for Black/African American men (ages 18+) who have behavioral health needs and are involved in, or at risk of involvement with, the criminal justice system. Our mission is to provide high-quality services that are inclusive and culturally appropriate, helping our community achieve better health. 

The Miracles Club Founded in 1993 by three men in recovery wishing to create a safe and sober environment to sustain the African American Community has evolved into today's Miracles Club. The Miracles Club of Portland has a cooperative relationship with Multnomah County, Oregon Health Authority, Central City Concern, Guardian Management, Bridges to Change, Quest and HealthShare.

Miracles is a community recovery center that offers addiction peer services to the African American Community, a fellowship hall, a wellness program, events and meeting space for community recovery meetings.

My Hair My Health PDX (MHMH PDX) Cause: To inspire Black women and their families to build a collaborative village that better defines their journey of holistic health and wellness without restriction. 

Mission: To empower 8,000 Black women in Oregon ages 25-55 through workshops, training, and resources to increase their health knowledge, make informed decisions on well-being, and build a collaborative village of support that connects women to themselves and to one another.

Vision: To build a collaborative village through events, resources, networking opportunities, workshops, and classes that uplift our mind, body, and souls while connecting us to ourselves and one another.

North by Northeast Community Health Center North by Northeast Community Health Center is the only medical clinic in Oregon devoted to African American/Black health. We exist to improve health outcomes and advance health equity by offering primary care services and health education and promotion focused on the African American/Black community.

Oregon Change Clinic (OCC) Oregon Change Clinic (OCC) is a culturally-specific, outpatient treatment facility for substance use recovery and mental health disorders. OCC specializes in working with the Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) communities in Portland, Oregon.

Additionally, we treat Major Depressive Disorder with the breakthrough treatment called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).

PreSERVE Coalition for Black/African American Memory and Brain Health The PreSERVE Coalition for Black/African American Memory and Brain Health is a group of community members and representatives from non-profits and healthcare organizations in the Portland area. We empower older Black/African Americans to maintain and improve brain health through a healthy lifestyle.

Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH), Multnomah County REACH works with local organizations, other government programs and agencies, businesses and community members to prevent chronic disease and improve the collective health of Black and African communities (including immigrants and refugees) of Multnomah County.

We focus on community health for the Black and African communities of Multnomah County including immigrants and refugees.

Sacred Roots Doulas, The Black Parent Initiative (BPI) Women have complex needs during pregnancy, childbirth, and the months that follow. Sacred Roots Doulas provide mothers and families with consistent, continuous reassurance, comfort, encouragement, and respect. Our Doulas provide culturally specific care for mothers based on their circumstances and preferences.

​A "Doula" is "a woman who serves". Sacred Roots Community Doulas are trained and experienced professionals who provide continuous physical, spiritual, emotional, educational, and advocacy support to Black and Multi-Ethnic families during the Pre-Natal, Labor/Birth, and Post-Partum period. Studies have shown, when a mother is supported by a "Doula," she will have shorter labors with fewer complications; and, babies are healthier and will breastfeed more easily!

Urban League of Portland Community Health Programs Our community health programs train and employ trusted members of our Black community to help navigate complex healthcare systems; connect folks to health insurance; help manage and prevent chronic disease; and offer peer-delivered services to those in recovery. We build individual and community capability by increasing health knowledge; empowering participants to find their voice as self advocates; and by speaking-up and asking for what they need in order to make the best decisions about their own health.

Kaiser Permanente Center for Black Health and Wellness The Center for Black Health and Wellness is a primary care center that will be located within the East Interstate Medical Office in North Portland. It will be a new option for Kaiser Permanente Northwest members interested in receiving primary care services.

The goal of our center is to improve the health of our Black members, elevate their care experience, continue to build trust, create culturally responsive care, and best practices that can be shared across our organization and the health care community.

It will be led by a team of clinicians with experience in providing exceptional culturally competent care to Black patients and their families. We here at Kaiser Permanente Northwest recognize that studies show Black patients have better health outcomes when they have Black clinician(s) and care teams that are highly experienced in providing culturally responsive care.

Radical Rest Radical Rest provides communal trauma healing experiences and education to Black, Indigenous and Peoples of Color (BIPOC) folks in the Portland Metro Area.

Radical Rest uplifts access to healing for Portland area black and brown communities with free to low cost communal healing events led by BIPOC healer-facilitators who center healing justice. Radical Rest uses the principles of somatics, experiential learning and trauma-informed practices to provide trauma healing spaces that reduce isolation, build resilience, expand knowledge of ancestral and healthful life practices and grow trust in self, others and the natural world. We encourage structural change in wellness work through fostering trust in oneself and the collective, through contemplation and embodiment and, of course, through rest.

Avel Gordly Center for Healing, OHSU The Avel Gordly Center for Healing is one of the few practices in the Northwest that focuses on culturally sensitive care for the African and African-American community. We have a close collaboration with community partners to ensure that we reach a population who are under served. We recognize how trauma affects the health of our patients and we strive to remove the stigma that is associated with mental illness. We provide cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness based therapy, psychotherapy, and medication management. We have a diverse group of expert practitioners who provide individual, group, marital, couples, and family therapy.

Black and African American Therapists in Portland, OR, Psychology Today The directory of Black therapists includes therapists who have self-identified their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profile, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. In situations where the number of therapists who have identified as Black is limited, the directory will also show therapists who have undergone specific multicultural training or have extensive experience working with clients from relevant cultural backgrounds.

Alliance of Black Nurses Association of Oregon The Alliance of Black Nurses Association of Oregon (ABNAO) nurtures an empowered Black nursing community by promoting solidarity, professional enrichment, and collaborative partnerships.

Community Doula Alliance Our mission is to create an exceptional generation of professional doulas, particularly Black, Indigenous, Latino/a/x, Asian and other racially and linguistically diverse, underrepresented doulas, who can enter the workforce with sustainable careers, improve maternal and infant health outcomes, and meet the ever-changing needs of birthing and postpartum people.
